Image Manipulation
Assignment Proposal/Research Document
Image manipulation is the process of
modifying images and has been around as long as photography itself. Image
manipulation can bring photos to life and give them a whole new meaning as you
can just about do anything in Photoshop.
An idea I have for my manipulation project is
going to be one image made from a few different images. I plan on making a
collage with the images to form one image. The location I plan on shooting my
images at, is Poolbeg lighthouse. I chose this location because I enjoy going
there and I already have taken images at the location before, which will help me
visualise what I’m going to do for my project. I plan to take many images in
order to have a lot to choose from. I don’t intend to do much editing to the
images separately, however when combined to make one image, I believe that it will
look cool.
I plan on setting up a tripod a certain
distance away from the lighthouse. I am going to use my own camera which is a Sony
rx100. The idea I have is to take many photos from the same spot at different
times of the day. By taking the images from the same spot, I believe it will be
easier to stitch the images together to look like one image. The theme I will
be going for is contrasting views. Everyone perceives things differently based
on their beliefs and ways of thinking. Therefore, I want to create one image
that has a number of different aspects to it to show different people can look
at the same thing differently.
Background Research:
Prior to choosing my idea, I researched
various photography styles to see what appealed to me for this project. Three
which I have decided to incorporate into this project are, Landscape photography,
outdoor photography, and abstract photography. I will be shooting my images in
landscape and with the collage I intend to add an abstract element, while keeping
all elements of the image as real images. A photo collage is a collection of pictures
that are put together to make one image. I have researched some photographers
who use the collage method in their images, and they are, Julien Pacaud, Mareen
Fischinger, and Jessie Craig.
